Coimbatore : With Parliamentary elections slowly heating up with the usual fanfare, in line with the announcement of the Lok Sabha 2019 election dates by the Election Commission, candidates from all parties have begun to file in their nominations from today.

Independent candidate, Vasanthakumar from Kalupati, Coimbatore filed the first nomination papers with the District Election Officer, K Rajamani to contest in the Coimbatore parliamentary elections. Speaking to the media after submitting his nomination papers, Vasanthakumar said that he was contesting the elections in a fresh attempt to oust caste-based politics and also reiterated that people should be contesting in the hope of being trusted and to be trustees.
He also added, "The Parliamentary Election is a search for workers and people are the actual 'Masters.' Vasanthakumar's wife Sasikala Banu is a lawyer and his only son, Charan Prabhu is studying in a private college.
C T Manikandan, the SMK candidate from the Pollachi constituency also submitted his nomination papers and was the second candidate to do so. Security had been tightened in the District Collector's office today since candidates had begun arriving to submit their nominations. Entry to the premises was allowed only after a thorough checking.
